The Federal Government has created an Agriculture and Water Resources Joint Action Committee to tackle food security and inflation challenges, as announced by Minister of State for Agriculture, Senator Aliyu Abdullahi, at the National Youth Convention in Abuja. The initiative, aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s food security agenda, aims to promote year-round farming by implementing dry-seeding farming.
Abdullahi emphasized the importance of harnessing water resources for farming to ensure self-sufficiency. The partnership between the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources, along with River Basin Development Authorities, seeks to enhance livelihoods, increase production, and involve youth and private sectors in agriculture.
The minister highlighted the ministry’s response to recent flooding due to climate change, emphasizing the importance of dry-season farming for better water control and crop management. The government’s focus on the future, as part of the Renewed Hope Agenda, prioritizes youth involvement in securing food production and sustainability.
