Discover how the ‘Forest of Korean Peninsula Peace’ has been created around the birthplace of former President Kim Dae-jung’s hometown on Hauido Island. Started in 2020 and ongoing for 5 years, this 60,000m² forest aims to connect the spirit of reconciliation symbolized by the ‘Big Rock Face’ to the north of the President’s birthplace, fostering peace between North and South Korea.
With a budget of 14 billion won, this project is dedicated to honoring President Kim’s legacy. The ‘Peace Plaza of Glory’ features a variety of trees, including the beloved phoenix tree, symbolizing resilience and blooming even in harsh conditions. Moreover, the ‘Ocean View’ space near the Big Rock Face provides a serene spot to gaze out at the sea.
As part of the project, various areas such as the Peaceful Garden Memory Forest Path and Thorn Forest Trails reflect unique stories and native flora. Once completed, the Kim Dae-jung Memorial Museum will open next year, welcoming visitors to experience the beauty and serenity of the Forest of Korean Peninsula Peace on Hauido Island.
