Student protestors and activists in Bangladesh attacked supporters of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, preventing them from reaching a memorial for her father, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Despite the cancellation of a national holiday by the interim government, supporters of Hasina’s Awami League party attempted to mark the anniversary of Rahman’s assassination. The protesters armed themselves with bamboo sticks, iron rods, and pipes, blocking access to the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum in Dhaka.
After Hasina’s resignation and escape to India, tension rose as her supporters gathered to pay respects. Hasina’s opponents, fearing chaos, clashed with her supporters to prevent any unrest.
The interim government announced a UN investigation into the alleged atrocities committed during the protests, highlighting the need for accountability and justice for the victims of the political unrest.
As Bangladesh remains in turmoil, the struggle for power and justice continues, with both sides pushing their agendas in a bid to shape the country’s future.
