Bangladesh PM Hasina implicated in murder case

Bangladesh’s former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is now at the center of a murder case, accused of the killing of a grocery store owner during a police firing incident on July 19. This marks the first murder case against Hasina, who has fled to India amidst the allegations. The case was filed by a resident of Dhaka, linking Hasina and six others to the murder of Abu Sayeed.

As students rally in protests in Dhaka, demanding accountability for recent deaths, Hasina’s involvement in this case adds fuel to the fire. Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus has stepped in to lead a transitional administration in the country, as tensions rise.

The complaint details a peaceful student procession turning deadly due to police actions, resulting in Sayeed’s tragic death. Allegations of a harsh crackdown on the quota reform movement have also been leveled against Hasina. This latest development highlights the deep-seated tensions and violence that continue to plague Bangladesh’s political landscape.
