Turkey-Iraq High-Level Security Mechanism Meeting to Strengthen Cooperation
The 4th meeting of the Turkey-Iraq High-Level Security Mechanism is scheduled to take place in Ankara, Turkey, aiming to enhance security cooperation and solidify understandings reached in previous meetings. This meeting follows President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s visit to Iraq in April, which marked a significant shift in Ankara-Baghdad relations.
During Erdogan’s visit, the Strategic Framework Agreement was signed, establishing the Joint Planning Group and various Joint Permanent Committees to facilitate cooperation between the two countries. Additionally, a one-on-one meeting between the Turkish and Iraqi Foreign Ministers is planned to review the implementation of previous agreements and discuss future steps.
Preparatory meetings for the Security Mechanism and Joint Planning Group will be held prior to the main meeting, showcasing the commitment to strengthening ties between Turkey and Iraq in areas of security and counter-terrorism. The joint efforts to combat common threats like the PKK highlight the significance of these meetings in promoting regional stability.
