A US Army intelligence analyst has pleaded guilty to providing sensitive defense information to China, including documents on US weapons systems and military tactics. Sergeant Korbein Schultz, with a top-secret security clearance, was arrested in March at Fort Campbell, a military base on the Kentucky-Tennessee border. Charged with conspiring to obtain and disclose national defense information, Schultz also exported technical data without a license, conspired to export defense articles, and bribed a public official.
Providing dozens of sensitive US military documents to an individual in Hong Kong believed to be associated with the Chinese government, Schultz was paid $42,000. Documents covered topics such as US Army lessons from the Ukraine-Russia war, Chinese military tactics, and US military activities in South Korea and the Philippines. Documents also included information on helicopters, fighter jets, reconnaissance aircraft, and missile systems.
Schultz potentially faces decades in prison, with a sentencing hearing scheduled for January 23, 2025. This incident follows the arrests of two US Navy sailors for spying for China, highlighting the ongoing efforts to protect national security information from hostile foreign governments.
