On Thursday, the State Department notified Congress of its intent to provide $3.5 billion in military financing to Israel.

Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield emphasized the US goal of de-escalating tensions in the Middle East and preventing regional conflict, despite recent military funding for Israel amid Gaza’s crisis.

During a UN Security Council briefing, Greenfield highlighted the need for peace efforts and crisis management. The US has deployed military assets to defend against threats and emphasized the importance of a ceasefire in Gaza to restore calm.

Calls for Ceasefire Talks

Greenfield urged both sides to resume discussions in Doha or Cairo to implement a ceasefire deal promptly. The US aims to present a comprehensive proposal to meet all parties’ expectations and reduce tensions in the region.

Concerns Over Civilian Casualties

The ambassador expressed concern about civilian casualties in Gaza following Israeli airstrikes and stressed the need to minimize harm to non-combatants. Despite funding Israel for military purchases, the US remains committed to peaceful resolutions.

Greenfield’s statements reflect ongoing efforts to mediate conflicts in the region and address humanitarian concerns in the midst of escalating tensions.
