The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is in turmoil as a Rivers State court nullified the removal of the Emeka Beke-led executive, led by Tony Okocha. The court ruled that the National Working Committee of the party acted improperly in dissolving the elected executives, stating they lack the authority to do so while the tenure is ongoing.
In response, the Tony Okocha-led caretaker committee rejected the court’s decision, citing the Supreme Court’s previous rulings on internal party affairs. Chibuike Ikenga, the spokesperson for the Rivers APC Caretaker Committee, criticized the judgment as biased towards the Rivers State government and anti-Tinubu coalition.
Despite the court ruling, the caretaker committee remains steadfast and plans to appeal the decision. They maintain that those removed from their positions supported the opposition during the elections, justifying their dismissal. The internal party conflict could have wider implications for the APC in Rivers State.
