Recently, the National Party (NP) chief, Dr Abdul Malik Baloch, met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to mediate between the government and the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) following large protests in Gwadar. Dr. Baloch criticized the authorities for mishandling the situation and using force instead of dialogue.
The clashes began after the BYC announced a gathering in Gwadar on July 28, leading to clashes with security forces. The situation escalated, resulting in injuries and deaths. Both sides blamed each other for the violence.
In response, ISPR DG Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry labeled the BYC as proxies for terrorists. However, tensions eased after the BYC leadership called off the protests following talks with government officials.
Dr. Baloch emphasized the need for political dialogue to address Balochistan’s issues peacefully, urging the state to avoid using force against peaceful protests. The National Party will continue efforts to resolve issues through political means.
The meeting with Prime Minister Sharif included discussions on resolving political issues through negotiation, demonstrating a commitment to democracy and upholding the Constitution.
