Police investigate attempted assassination on Lagos chief

The Ogun State Police Command is currently investigating an alleged assassination attempt on Chief Adebowale Emmanuel from the Iredo Community in Lagos State. The incident, related to a kingship dispute, happened as the chief was traveling from Ijebu Ode to Ikorodu via the Ijebu Ode-Epe Expressway. Multiple bullets hit the chief’s vehicle, but he managed to escape and seek safety.

According to the police spokesperson, the attack stems from a power struggle within the ruling family over the coronation of a new king, despite the current king being alive. Law enforcement has visited the scene to prevent further violence and ensure the safety of all involved. The car involved in the incident has been recovered, and investigations are ongoing to prevent loss of life.

This incident brings back memories of a similar tragedy in 2022 when Ayinde Odetola, a traditional ruler in Ogun State, was murdered in a similar manner. The assailants set him ablaze after hacking him to death.

The authorities are working to bring those responsible to justice and prevent further bloodshed in the community. It serves as a reminder of the complexities and dangers involved in disputes over traditional leadership and succession.
