MPs in South Sudan denounce Uganda’s border mistreatment

Uganda Encroachment on South Sudan Territory Sparks Outcry in Parliament

Members of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA) expressed outrage on Tuesday over Uganda’s continued encroachment into South Sudan’s territory.

According to reports, the Uganda People’s Defense Force (UPDF) crossed into Kajo-Keji County in Central Equatoria State, where they allegedly assaulted and detained six South Sudanese individuals.

During a parliamentary session, SPLM lawmaker John Agany Deng accused the Ugandan Army of intruding further into South Sudan, resulting in the deaths of 17 people, including women. Deng emphasized the importance of protecting South Sudan’s territorial integrity.

Amidst concerns over the fate of three SSPDF soldiers arrested by Ugandan troops, parliamentarians criticized Uganda’s actions as provocative and called for the resolution of the border dispute through established channels.

The joint border committee formed in 2016 to address the territorial conflict has yet to provide a clear resolution, raising tensions between the two neighboring countries.
