Controversy Surrounding Proposed Cable Car Project Near Jog Falls
The state’s plan to introduce a cable car project near Jog Falls has hit a roadblock as the Forest Minister emphasized the government’s stance against development in environmentally sensitive areas. The project, which involves using around six acres of forest land for a cable car connecting a five-star hotel with a British bungalow, has raised concerns.
Authorities have submitted a proposal to the Centre for forest clearance, stating the necessity of forest land for the project. However, Deputy Commissioner Gurudatta Hegde assured that proper procedures are being followed to prevent any legal complications and ensure no trees are unnecessarily cut down.
Despite the potential benefits of the project, former chairman of the state Western Ghats Task Force, Anant Hegde Ashisara, has warned about the environmental impact, urging the government to reconsider. The controversy surrounding the cable car project highlights the delicate balance between development and environmental conservation.
