Ilhan Omar wins MN District 5 Dem primary, Don Samuels trails

Ilhan Omar, the incumbent and squad member, secured a victory in the Minnesota District 5 Democratic primary with 56.2% of the vote, as reported by the New York Times. Don Samuels came in second with 42.9% of the vote, while Nate Schluter and Abena McKenzie received less than 1% of the combined votes.

Despite expectations of Omar winning the primary, Samuels did not raise significant funds before the race, and AIPAC was not involved. District 5 being a solidly blue district, Omar is anticipated to retain her seat in the general election.

This victory comes after Samuels previously ran against Omar in 2022, losing by a slim margin of only 2%. Omar’s campaign had spent over $6.1 million as of July, according to NBC News.
