Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign recently revealed that they were targeted by a foreign actor influence operation, as notified by the FBI. Despite this, the campaign reassured the public that they have strong cybersecurity measures in place and have not experienced any security breaches as a result of the attack. The FBI is conducting an investigation into the matter.
On the other side, Donald Trump’s presidential campaign also reported being hacked, with suspicions pointing towards Iran. A recent report from Microsoft researchers indicated that Iranian government-affiliated hackers attempted to breach the account of a “high-ranking official” within a US presidential campaign in June. The Iranian government, however, has denied any involvement in hacking the Trump campaign.
The incidents highlight the ongoing cybersecurity threats faced by political campaigns, with foreign actors attempting to influence or disrupt the democratic process. Both campaigns are staying in close communication with authorities as the investigations continue.
Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
