The staff relied on incentives funded by NGOs like Care International and TearFund to keep the hospital functioning smoothly. However, since the transition of these NGOs on June 30, 2024, there have been delays in receiving these incentives, resulting in operational challenges and uncertainty about job security.
If the payment issues are not addressed within 72 hours, the staff have threatened to go on strike, potentially impacting healthcare services in Jonglei State. With the economic situation in South Sudan worsening and civil servants going without pay for months, the situation at Bor State Hospital highlights the challenges faced by healthcare workers in the country.
