The health of Binance executive Tigran Gambaryan has worsened in a Nigerian prison, where he faces money laundering charges. Gambaryan, along with another Binance executive, Nadeem Anjarwalla, is accused of laundering over $35m. Binance also faces a separate charge of tax evasion.
Gambaryan’s wife, Yuki, expressed concern about his deteriorating health, citing a herniated disc that may leave permanent damage. He has been denied access to his lawyers since July 26. Despite denying the charges, Binance is under scrutiny and stopped transactions in Nigeria after regulatory crackdowns.
During a court appearance in a wheelchair, Gambaryan was ordered a medical report which was not submitted. The judge mandated him to receive 24-hour medical care and adjourned the trial to October 11.
The situation highlights the challenges faced by cryptocurrency companies operating in Nigeria and the health risks Gambaryan is facing in prison.
