Israeli ministers, including Itamar Ben-Gvir, joined illegal settlers in storming the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex in East Jerusalem to mark a Jewish event. This act is in violation of the status quo at the site, as stated by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office.
Approximately 2,250 Israeli settlers conducted religious rituals at the complex, angering Palestinians and leading to the deployment of hundreds of Israeli soldiers in the area. Ben-Gvir, the national security minister, has stormed the mosque six times since 2022.
Al-Aqsa Mosque is considered the third holiest site in Islam and the Jews believe it to be the Temple Mount, the site of two ancient Jewish temples. The international community does not recognize Israel’s annexation of East Jerusalem, where Al-Aqsa is located, following the 1967 Arab-Israeli War.
