The High-Ranking Officials’ Crime Investigation Department (Criminal Investigation Bureau) is under scrutiny for allegedly pressuring an investigation into the Marine Corps staff’s death. They accessed President Yoon Suk-yeol’s phone call records, prompting the Presidential office to express strong discomfort. Suspicions of intentional leaks are also raised. In response, the ruling party criticized the violation of the department’s independence.
Despite the ongoing investigation into the Marine Corps case, the Criminal Investigation Bureau obtained the President’s phone call records. This move was met with skepticism and discomfort. The Bureau’s actions have stirred concerns about the credibility of their investigations.
While the Presidential office denounced the actions of the Investigation Bureau, they also expressed concerns about the lack of confidentiality in the ongoing investigations. Additionally, they criticized the Bureau’s frequent leaks to the media and the opposition party’s use of this information in attacking the President. The Bureau has yet to respond to these allegations.
Given these circumstances, there are calls for a special investigation to uncover the truth behind the Marine Corps case and the alleged external pressures.
