The United States has approved $20 billion in weapons transfers to Israel, despite concerns over violations of international law in Gaza and the West Bank. The approved arms shipments include fighter jets, tank munitions, and air-to-air missiles.
As Israel braces for potential retaliation from Iran and Hezbollah following recent assassinations of high-level Hamas and Hezbollah officials, tension in the region is high. President Joe Biden has urged for a ceasefire agreement to avoid further escalation.
Critics have called for an end to weapons transfers to Israel, accusing the Biden administration of complicity in the destruction of Gaza. Despite reports of Israeli forces violating international law and committing abuses, the flow of weapons continues.
US Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield emphasized the need for an immediate ceasefire and hostage release in Gaza during a speech to the UN Security Council.
