Former Presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari are physically attending the inaugural Council of State meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. This meeting, convened by President Bola Tinubu, marks the first gathering of former leaders under the current administration.
Former Heads of State General Yakubu Gowon and Abdulsalami Abubakar joined the meeting virtually, along with governors of Abia, Adamawa, and Akwa Ibom states. The council, comprising current and former leaders, former Chief Justices of Nigeria, the Senate President, House of Representatives Speaker, all state governors, and the Attorney-General of the Federation, is responsible for advising the executive on policy-making.
The meeting, focusing on pressing national issues like food security, national security, and economic policies, began at 12:35 p.m. The last Council of State meeting was under former President Buhari, addressing topics like the 2023 elections, naira policy crisis, and fuel scarcity.
