South Korea Introduces Bedbug-Detection Dog at Airport After Paris Panic
South Korea has taken proactive measures to prevent bedbugs from entering the country after a panic in Paris over the insects. A two-year-old beagle named Ceco is South Korea’s only bedbug-detection dog, trained to sniff out the pests by detecting their pheromones. Ceco can search a hotel room for bedbugs in under two minutes at Incheon international airport.
Following reports of bedbug infestations in Paris, South Korea is closely monitoring and disinfecting flights from the city. With the upcoming 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris, the South Korean government is taking preemptive action to intercept the bugs at the main gateway of Incheon airport.
Ceco will be deployed at the airport until September 8 to ensure thorough checks as athletes, fans, and officials return from the Olympics. In 2023, South Korea faced a wave of concern over bedbug infestations, leading to a disinfection campaign and a budget allocation to address the issue.
The introduction of Ceco highlights South Korea’s commitment to preventing the spread of bedbugs and maintaining a pest-free environment for travelers and residents alike.
