Senior government official shot dead in vehicle attack in southwest Pakistan

Tragedy struck in southwest Pakistan as gunmen ambushed deputy commissioner Zakir Baloch, killing him and injuring two others before fleeing the scene. The attack, which took place in Mastung district of Baluchistan province, has left authorities scrambling to find those responsible.

With no group claiming responsibility for the attack, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Sarfraz Bugti, the top official of Baluchistan, have condemned the violence and urged for the swift apprehension of the perpetrators.

Known for its frequent militant activities, Baluchistan has been a hotspot for insurgency groups seeking autonomy for the region due to its abundant mineral and gas resources. The presence of Pakistani Taliban and other Islamic militants further complicates the security situation in the province.
