The ruling BJP in Odisha has launched an investigation into the alleged misuse of government helicopters by former chief minister Naveen Patnaik’s aide V K Pandian during the BJD regime. Pandian, a retired IAS officer, is accused of extensively using choppers for grievance redressal hearings across Odisha.
Odisha’s Commerce and Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena stated that action will be taken if there is any misuse of state resources. Pandian visited 190 places in all 30 districts of Odisha, collecting petitions and resolving issues during his chopper travels.
Amidst the probe, Odisha’s Law, Excise, and Works Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan mentioned the construction of 450 helipads across the state to facilitate Pandian’s travel. The expenses for each helipad construction are estimated at around Rs 3 lakh.
While BJD leader Sambit Routray defended Pandian’s helicopter use, Congress leader Bijay Patnaik called for a thorough investigation. The political debate continues as different parties weigh in on the issue.
