In the midst of the conflict between Israel and Hamas, nearly 85% of schools in Gaza, totaling 477 out of 564, have been impacted by the violence according to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
Of the affected schools, 344 have been directly hit and 133 have suffered various degrees of damage, including public, UNRWA, and private schools. Additionally, 180 schools serving as shelters for displaced individuals have been targeted since October 2023, based on reports from the Palestinian Civil Defense (PCD).
Recent events include an Israeli airstrike on the Al-Taba’een school, where the IDF claims to have accurately targeted Hamas members within a command center, resulting in casualties. Gaza’s civil defense service reports at least 93 fatalities, including children and women.
The ongoing violence continues to have a devastating impact on education and civilian lives in Gaza, highlighting the urgent need for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
