Mandela seeks R23m for identity theft by Adetshina’s mom

Activist Mayibuye Mandela is calling on the government to compensate the victim of alleged identity theft linked to the investigation of former Miss SA contestant Chidimma Vanessa Adetshina’s nationality controversy. Adetshina, who was born to a Nigerian father and Mozambican mother in South Africa, has faced scrutiny over her eligibility for the pageant. The home affairs department suggested that identity theft may have occurred involving the person registered as Adetshina’s mother.

Mandela has written a letter demanding compensation for the victim who has suffered economic hardships and psychological distress due to the stolen identity over the past 23 years. He proposes a compensation of R23 million to address the long-term effects of the case and restore the victim’s dignity and rights. Mandela also calls for the immediate arrest of all individuals involved in the alleged fraudulent activities, excluding Adetshina herself.

The department of home affairs is conducting investigations into Adetshina’s citizenship status and has asked for time to conclude the matter.
