A 38-year-old driver, Usman Abdulkarim, was sentenced to one year imprisonment by a Jos Magistrates’ Court for stealing 1050 liters of petrol worth N977,000. Abdulkarim pleaded guilty to theft, leading to the summary trial and sentencing by Magistrate Mr Shawomi Bokkos. The magistrate also offered an option for the convict to pay N50,000 instead.

As reported by Prosecution Counsel Insp Ibrahim Gokwat, the case was brought to the Laranto Police Station by Abdullahi Usman. It was revealed that the convict, entrusted with the petrol, stole it for sale. Abdulkarim admitted to the crime, which is punishable under Plateau state Penal Code Law.

Additionally, the magistrate ordered the convict to pay compensation of N320,000 or face a six-month imprisonment in default. This sentence serves as a warning against theft and emphasizes the consequences of such illegal actions.
