In a recent op-ed published by The Guardian, Bruce Daisley, former vice-president for Europe, Middle East, and Africa of a tech platform referred to as X, has called for draconian censorship to suppress right-wing content. Daisley suggested threatening tech mogul Elon Musk with arrest and detention if he doesn’t comply with the censorship demands.
Daisley criticized Musk for his free-speech approach since taking over Twitter and allowing right-wing content to spread, which he claims has led to unrest. Daisley proposed personal sanctions against Musk as a more effective measure than corporate fines.
Additionally, Daisley urged British regulators to deplatform right-wing influencers and strengthen the Online Safety Act 2023 to combat harmful online content. The act is set to hold social media companies accountable for illegal content posted on their platforms.
The response to the recent riots in the UK includes over 700 arrests, with more than 30 charged for online offenses related to inciting violence or hatred. Elon Musk criticized the government’s handling of the riots, emphasizing freedom of information as a fundamental human right.
