Denmark is taking action to combat the rising cross-border gang violence from Sweden, with armed Swedish teenagers being used as “child soldiers” in turf wars, as stated by the Danish justice minister. This surge in violence on Danish soil by Swedish gang members is believed to be a spill-over effect from Sweden, which has the highest per capita rate of gun violence in the EU.
Efforts to address this issue include heightened monitoring of passengers arriving by train from Sweden and the potential implementation of facial recognition technology for quicker investigations. Minister of Justice Peter Hummelgaard emphasized the need for Sweden to take responsibility for the situation, with severe consequences awaiting Swedish gang members involved in the violence, as confirmed by Denmark’s national chief of police.
With Sweden housing approximately 14,000 active gang criminals and an additional 48,000 individuals loosely affiliated with gangs, the need for intervention is urgent. As Sweden grapples with gun violence, Denmark seeks to collaborate with its neighbor to combat this pressing issue.
