The Chartered Institute of Project Managers of Nigeria (CIPMN) has revealed that abandoned projects in the country amount to N17 trillion. This staggering figure is attributed to a lack of vision, proper planning, budgeting, a weak legal system, corruption, and compromised institutions.
The Registrar, Henry Mbadiwe, emphasized the importance of licensing project managers and holding them accountable for their actions. He highlighted the institute’s collaboration with educational bodies and organizations to set standards and create a framework for project management in Nigeria.
Mbadiwe stressed the need for proper planning and coordination in project execution to facilitate growth in the country. He expressed concern over the prevalent issue of abandoned projects and vowed to enforce licensing regulations effectively.
He called on government agencies to comply with licensing requirements and announced the commencement of enforcement in early 2025. Mbadiwe reiterated the institute’s commitment to upholding professional standards and ensuring responsible project management practices in Nigeria.
