Shocking new NAPLAN results have revealed that one in three school students are failing to meet basic literacy and numeracy standards. Released by ACARA after 1.3 million students took the exams, the findings show a concerning lack of proficiency in crucial subjects.
While some students excel, with 67% reaching high levels in reading, gender differences and disparities among Indigenous students are evident. Boys outperformed girls in numeracy, while Indigenous students scored lower in literacy across all states and age groups.
Education Minister Jason Clare emphasized the need for significant reform to address these issues. He highlighted the importance of creating a fairer education system that ensures all students have equal opportunities for success, regardless of background.
