BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 12. The Pentagon has escalated its military presence in the Middle East due to rising tensions in the region, as reported by Trend.
US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has taken steps to reinforce the US military presence by ordering the USS Georgia nuclear submarine to the Middle East and expediting the deployment of the Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier, according to a statement from the Pentagon.
During a phone call with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant, Austin assured Israel of the US’s commitment to ensuring its safety and announced an increase in military presence in response to escalating tensions in the region.
The deployment includes the transfer of the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln with F-35C fighters and the sending of the submarine Georgia equipped with cruise missiles to the US Central Command’s area of responsibility. The Pentagon is also working to deter aggression from Iran, Hezbollah, and other Iranian-linked groups.
This move comes following discussions with Australia, where Austin revealed plans to strengthen the US military presence in the Middle East by deploying additional cruisers, destroyers, and aircraft.
