In response to escalating tensions in the Middle East, U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has ordered a guided missile submarine and instructed the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier strike group to expedite their deployment to the region. The move comes as the U.S. and allies seek a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas following recent high-profile assassinations.
With concerns mounting over potential retaliatory strikes by Iran and Hezbollah, the U.S. is bolstering its military presence in the area. Austin reaffirmed America’s commitment to Israel’s defense during a conversation with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
The USS Abraham Lincoln, already en route from the Asia Pacific, is expected to reach the Central Command area by the end of the month. Additionally, the USS Georgia guided missile submarine has been dispatched to the region, although the timeline remains uncertain.
As tensions continue to rise, efforts are being made to mitigate civilian casualties in Gaza. The recent Israeli airstrike on a Gaza school-turned-shelter resulted in a devastating loss of life.
