The Ukrainian 225th Separate Assault Battalion recently released a video showcasing Ukrainian soldiers removing a Russian flag in Darino, located in Russia’s Kursk Oblast. This action marks Kyiv’s ongoing offensive into the region, now entering the seventh day. The surprise incursion on August 6 brought Ukrainian forces into Russian territory for the first time, with Kyiv maintaining a policy of silence despite the advancing conflict.
Previous videos of Ukrainian soldiers in Russian towns like Sudzha and Belgorod Oblast were shared on Telegram channels, but the 225th battalion’s footage is the first officially published by the Ukrainian military. The battle for control over Russian territory intensified, with Russian regional authorities reporting Ukraine’s control over 28 settlements as of August 12.
This incursion prompted Russian authorities to declare a “counter-terrorism operation” in bordering oblasts and deploy additional military equipment to the Sudzha district. Thousands of residents have been evacuated. The conflict has brought war to Russian soil, highlighting the escalating tensions between the two nations.
