In the wake of the resignation of Sheikh Hasina as prime minister of Bangladesh and subsequent attacks on the Hindu community, South African Hindus are urging the government to step in. Amidst reports of over 200 incidents of violence against minority communities in Bangladesh, a peaceful protest was organized in Phoenix, KwaZulu-Natal, in solidarity with the affected Bangladeshi Hindus.
Activist Mervin Govender emphasized the urgent need for intervention, highlighting the plight of Hindus who are being persecuted solely based on their religion. Drawing parallels to South Africa’s history of apartheid, Govender denounced the discrimination faced by the Hindu minority in Bangladesh as cowardice and ongoing mutiny.
Expressing solidarity, Govender vowed to continue fighting until the Hindu community in Bangladesh is free from persecution. The international community is urged to take note of the escalating violence and support efforts to protect the rights and safety of Hindus in Bangladesh.
