During the absence of the police, student volunteers took over duties to restore law and order. The volunteers acted as traffic wardens, formed neighborhood watch patrols, and guarded places of worship. The police expressed gratitude towards the students for their efforts.
The interim government has expressed concern over attacks on minorities and has vowed to find ways to address the situation. Meanwhile, former Prime Minister Hasina fled the country amid protests, accused of human rights abuses.
The new home minister has stated that there are no plans to ban Hasina’s political party, the Awami League, and reiterated the commitment to democratic elections in the future.
Interim leader Yunus, known for his microfinance work, aims to steer the country towards democratic reforms and hold elections within a few months.
