A bomb blast on a minibus in a neighbourhood of Afghanistan’s capital killed one person and wounded 11 others on Sunday, according to a Kabul police spokesman. The explosion occurred in Dasht-i-Barchi, a area populated by Shias who have often been targeted by the Islamic State group. The police spokesperson mentioned that an improvised explosive device was planted on the minibus, and an investigation is currently underway.
Despite a decrease in deadly attacks since the Taliban took power in August 2021, various armed groups including Daesh still pose a threat in Afghanistan. However, a day prior to the bombing, the Taliban government spokesperson dismissed concerns about Daesh activities as propaganda, stating that Afghan security forces have destroyed most of their centers.
Overall, the Taliban government claims to have full control of Afghanistan’s geography, preventing any foreign or domestic rogue groups from operating. They assert that Daesh does not pose a significant threat to the country or its people.
