Former presidential candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP), Kingsley Moghalu, has expressed disagreement with President Bola Tinubu’s focus on economic reform over urgent constitutional reform in Nigeria. The Patriots, led by Chief Emeka Anyaoku, recently met with Tinubu to advocate for a new constitution, which was met with a response prioritizing economic issues.
Moghalu, a member of The Patriots, emphasized the crucial link between economic transformation and constitutional reform. He highlighted the necessity of a new constitution based on real federalism to address Nigeria’s lack of unity and common purpose. Without a unifying national identity, economic progress and productivity-driven growth will remain elusive.
Moghalu warned of the risks of ignoring the need for a constitutional overhaul, citing the potential for long-term disintegration if Nigeria fails to establish a cohesive nationhood. He called for prompt action to shape a viable future for the country, emphasizing the historical significance of resolving constitutional challenges for sustainable development.
