In a bold move, Kim Du-kwan, a candidate for the Democratic Party’s party leader in the upcoming party convention, called for a breakup with the strong supporters of Gyeonggi Governor Lee Jae-myung and the dissolution of “The Minjoo National Reform Conference,” the largest organization related to the loyal faction.
Kim emphasized the need for change within the party, highlighting a lack of diversity, democracy, and dynamism. He criticized the dominance of a minority faction and the growing influence of Lee Jae-myung’s supporters, stating that the party is facing a crisis. Kim proposed four major reforms, including the disbanding of certain factions and empowering local chapters within the party.
Furthermore, Kim suggested the formation of a “National Alliance for Regime Change” to shorten President Yoon Suk-yeol’s term, amend the constitution, and address various socio-political issues. By presenting a vision for a new direction for the party, Kim aims to bring together diverse political forces to drive meaningful change in South Korea’s political landscape.
