J&K under tight security before Independence Day

With Independence Day approaching, Jammu and Kashmir is on high alert due to security concerns following recent terror attacks. Security measures have been intensified in Srinagar and Jammu, with increased patrols, roadblocks, and surveillance. The main Independence Day function at Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar will have strict security protocols, including thorough checks and frisking.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will oversee the event, with police and paramilitary forces bolstering their presence in downtown areas and outskirts. Drones are also being used for surveillance. Despite the heavy security, residents are gearing up for celebrations, decorating schools and offices with the tricolor.

In south Kashmir, security has been enhanced around highways and public areas, with search operations in progress. Unlike previous years, separatist groups’ calls for shutdown on Independence Day have dwindled since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.

As the region prepares to commemorate Independence Day, the focus remains on ensuring safety and fostering a sense of unity amidst prevailing challenges.
