Hamas Claims Responsibility for Killing Israeli Captive in Gaza
Abu Obeida, the spokesperson for Hamas’s armed wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades, announced on Monday that two guards had executed an Israeli captive and injured two others in separate incidents in Gaza.
He stated that the Israeli government is to blame for the “massacres” in Gaza and the impact on Zionist prisoners’ lives, emphasizing that efforts are being made to save the lives of the injured individuals. Hamas formed a committee to investigate the incidents and will provide updates soon.
Despite Israeli army spokesperson Avichay Adraee stating that there is no confirmation or denial of Hamas’s claims, the incident raises questions regarding the ongoing talks to end the war in Gaza. Hamas previously expressed uncertainty about participating in the negotiations scheduled for Thursday.
With the death toll in Gaza escalating, reaching 39,897 according to the health ministry, international condemnation of Israel’s actions is growing. South Africa has accused Israel of genocide, and a recent attack on a school in Gaza resulted in over 90 casualties.
This latest development adds complexity to the already tense situation in Gaza, with both sides facing scrutiny over their actions and the prospects for peace negotiations uncertain.
