The government has revised its short-term energy transition goals to support growth without being overly restrictive. The National Plan for Energy and Climate aims to reduce spending for 2025-2030 from €270 billion to €94 billion, with estimates of €332 billion from 2031-2050. The initial plan was deemed too ambitious for the country’s resources.
The revised plan focuses on achieving an average annual economic growth of 1.2% until 2050 by addressing various sectors affected by the energy transition. Goals for electric transportation, energy savings in buildings, and adoption of new technologies like hydrogen have been adjusted.
Despite the revisions, the plan remains ambitious, targeting a 58.6% reduction in greenhouse gases by 2030 and climate neutrality by 2050. Renewable energy targets have been increased, with a focus on greening buildings and transitioning to renewables for heating and cooling.
While the target for electric vehicles falls short of the EU goal, the government prioritizes installing charging points. The plan also includes upgrading 409,000 buildings to be climate-friendly by 2030.
