Doctors protest 7-day deadline to police in Doctor’s Rape-murder: question Mamata

In a startling move, junior doctors at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in West Bengal have refused to back down until their demands are met, even in the face of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s seven-day ultimatum to solve the rape-murder of a postgraduate trainee. Despite Banerjee’s assurance of a transparent investigation and possible transfer of the case to the CBI, protesters are demanding a judicial inquiry, capital punishment for the perpetrators, and ample compensation for the victim’s family. The doctors also seek the removal of all senior hospital officials and an apology from Kolkata Police for spreading rumors about the investigation.

The situation escalated when Sandip Ghosh, the hospital’s principal, resigned amidst allegations of negligence. However, controversy reignited as Ghosh was appointed as the principal of another medical college while Dr. Suhrita Paul was appointed as RGKMCH principal. Support for the striking doctors has flooded in from various organizations nationwide, with calls for increased security for healthcare workers. The police have been conducting investigations by speaking with witnesses, further adding to the unfolding drama surrounding this tragic incident.
