AIIMS Delhi experienced an 80% drop in surgeries and a 35% decrease in admissions on Monday as resident doctors went on an indefinite strike to protest the rape and murder of a fellow doctor in Kolkata. The strike affected services like OPDs, laboratory, and radiological investigations, but emergency care continued to operate. The hospital’s administration issued a contingency plan to ensure minimal disruption to critical patient care services during the strike. A total of 625 admissions were made on Monday, with surgeries limited to vital cases only. Despite the strike, emergency services ran as usual, attended by resident doctors and faculty.
