National Minorities Day: A Day to Celebrate Diversity

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif came together on National Minorities Day to show support and solidarity for Pakistan’s minorities. The day, marked on August 11, was declared by the Government of Pakistan in 2009 to coincide with Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s historic speech in 1947, where he promised to protect minority rights.

President Zardari emphasized that minorities in Pakistan enjoy all rights guaranteed by the Constitution and praised the government’s efforts in empowering them socially, economically, and politically. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also acknowledged the invaluable contributions of the minority communities to the nation’s progress and prosperity.

In addition to the government’s support, messages of appreciation poured in from the armed forces, highlighting the integral role minority communities play in Pakistan’s cultural heritage. The armed forces reiterated their commitment to protecting and promoting the rights and welfare of minority groups.
