KYIV –
Russia is pushing back against Ukraine’s largest assault into Russian territory since the start of the war. The Russian Defense Ministry has reported sending troop reinforcements, establishing strict security measures in border areas, and conducting airstrikes. One of the strikes involved a thermobaric missile, causing a blast wave and suffocating those in its path.
Even with Russia halting the advances made by Ukrainian troops, Ukrainian forces are holding ground. They have claimed to capture a small village in the Belgorod region and control most of Sudzha in Kursk. Analysts believe Russian forces have been able to stall the major advances in Russian territory late in the week.
Pasi Paroinen, an analyst from the Black Bird Group, noted that evidence suggests Moscow has been able to prevent major advancements in Russian territory. The conflict continues to escalate as both sides seek to gain control in the region.
