Burning of RCCG Building in Niger State Condemned by Governor
The recent burning of the church building of the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Kontagora town, Niger State, by suspected hoodlums has been condemned by Governor Umaru Bago. The attack was described as “mindless and cowardly” in a statement issued by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Print Media.
Suspected hoodlums looted items and set ablaze the church located along the Federal College of Education Road in Kontagora. Governor Bago emphasized that the attack was not just on the Christian community but also a direct affront to the peace and unity of the state.
The Governor assured the safety, security, and freedom of religion for all residents, directing relevant security agencies to conduct an immediate inquiry into the incident and ensure the perpetrators are caught and prosecuted. He urged calm in Kontagora, emphasizing the importance of unity and peace among all religious and ethnic groups within the state.
The state government promised support to the affected church members and the broader Christian community, encouraging residents to report any suspicious activities to prevent future occurrences of such violence.
