Dangote Refinery Faces Setback in Rolling Out Petrol as Scheduled

The highly anticipated rollout of petrol at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery may not happen on Monday, as initially projected by Alhaji Aliko Dangote, the President of Dangote Group. While there were plans to begin production between August 10 and 12, 2024, recent findings suggest a delay in the process.

Despite efforts to kickstart the production of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) this month, challenges with the supply of crude oil have caused setbacks. The refinery, with its 650,000 barrels per day capacity, is awaiting 29 million barrels of crude oil from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission to facilitate the production of petrol.

With concerns about price differentials impacting the local sale of petrol and ongoing supply issues, the Dangote Refinery continues to work towards overcoming hurdles to meet the demands of the market. As Nigeria eagerly awaits the arrival of locally-produced petrol, the refinery faces obstacles that need to be addressed for a successful rollout.
