The Urgent Call for Disarmament: A Plea from within Lebanon
Ya Libnan Editorial: By Ali Hussein
With tensions escalating between Israel and Hezbollah, Lebanon finds itself on the brink of all-out war. The international community’s efforts to advocate for peace in the region are overshadowed by the ongoing conflict in Gaza, fueled by arms supplies to Israel. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his coalition show little interest in peace, aiming to displace Palestinians in Gaza for Israeli settlers, mirroring events in the West Bank.
The heart of Lebanon’s problem lies in Hezbollah’s reliance on Gaza for continued hostilities against Israel, displacing Shiites in southern Lebanon. Hezbollah’s actions, storing arms in residential areas, threaten civilian lives and Lebanese stability. It’s crucial for all citizens, particularly the Shiite community, to demand Hezbollah’s disarmament and support for the Lebanese army as Lebanon’s sole defense force.
Hezbollah’s actions, driven by Iran’s interests, endanger Lebanon, making it imperative to act swiftly against them. As Lebanon faces political turmoil and economic challenges, the need for unity and disarmament becomes more urgent than ever.
Lebanon must break free from Hezbollah’s grip, demanding accountability and prioritizing the nation’s interests over external alliances. It is time for a new beginning, one where Lebanon stands united against Hezbollah’s destructive path.
Together, as Lebanese citizens, we can pave the way for a brighter, more peaceful future for generations to come.
