Iran Unites on Retaliating against Israel, Ceasefire Talks Won’t Stop it

Iranian officials are reportedly unified in their determination to retaliate against Israel following the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, with no differences at the strategic level. Despite reports suggesting President Masoud Pezeshkian was seeking a softer response, Iranian media dismissed this as an Israeli psychological operation.

Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei issued a warning of a “harsh response” to Haniyeh’s killing, emphasizing Iran’s duty to avenge the Palestinian leader. President Pezeshkian also vowed to protect Iran’s sovereignty and honor, promising consequences for Israel’s actions.

Iran’s UN mission confirmed plans for retaliatory action, stressing the right to defend national security irrespective of ceasefire negotiations in Gaza. While prioritizing a sustainable ceasefire, the mission affirmed Iran’s legitimate defense stance.

The looming retaliation underscores Iran’s commitment to upholding its interests and sovereignty in the face of external threats, signaling a firm and united stance against perceived aggression.
