Reports of a wildfire near Athens have raised alarms as over 250 firefighters and multiple resources are deployed to combat the blaze. The fire, which started around 35 kilometers from the capital, is rapidly spreading towards an important water reservoir.

Driven by strong winds, flames have reached dangerous heights, damaging several houses in the process. Residents in nearby villages have been urged to evacuate as the fire poses a significant threat due to the dry weather conditions.

Authorities have issued warnings and alerts due to the heightened risk of wildfires in Greece, exacerbated by extreme weather patterns. Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Minister Vassilis Kikilias emphasized the severity of the situation, with half of the country under a “red alert.”
